Joe Manganiello Should Have Been Jack Reacher

Any true Jack Reacher Fan knows that Tom Cruise is quite possibly the worst choice possible to play our beloved character.  Really Hollywood..was it truey that difficult to find an actor that would have been appropriate.  Someone should have given me a call.  I have one for you.

Joe Manganiello the actor that plays the werewolf on True Blood would have been absolutely perfect.  He is actually 6″5″ tall just like Jack Reacher and has a body to die for.  I don’t think anyone would have protested if he had been chosen as the lead in the new Jack Reacher Movie.

I’ve been reading Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series for over ten years now and just heard last night that Tom Cruise will be playing him in the series first motion picture.  I was absolutely outraged.  I have never written a blog before but I just had to set up this site to vent my frustration and allow others to do the same.

I immediately had flash backs to 1994 when Interview With A Vampire was released.  Tom Cruise as Lestat was a true insult to all Anne Rice fans but I believe this is even worse.  Their isn’t a Jack Reacher Fan out there that could possibly want to see this movie.

The series has sold over 20 million copies in 51 countries and 36 languages.  How many fans do you think are disappointed right now?  If I was Lee Child, I would have never sold the movie rights without a clause that gave me the right to approve the actor playing Jack Reacher.  How could he possibly betray his character and fans in such a way?

One of the reason’s I believe the Harry Potter movies were so successful is because the actors chosen were the epitome of the characters in J.K. Rowling’s novels.  The books literally came to life on the screen.  This certainly will not be the case with Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.

For those fans that have not seen the trailer here it is:

The Trailer is exactly 1:57 long and I can already find a handful of discrepancies.

• First and foremost let get the obvious out of the way, Jack Reacher is 6″5″ tall and weighs over 200 pounds with nothing but bulk and muscle.
• The chances of Jack Reacher driving a sports car are slim to none.  He hates driving.  As a matter of fact, he doesn’t even have a license.  He carries his passport in his back pocket as his only form of Id.
• He most definitely would not be wearing a leather jacket.  He purchases his clothes from thrift stores as cheaply as possible.  Why? because he’ll only wear them for three or four days then dump them in the garbage after buying another set.

How many more errors will there be in the movie?  Did Paramount, the studio that produced the movie, even read any of the books?

As a decade long fan, I absolutely have to tell Lee Child that I am extremely disappointed.  I am debating whether or not I even want to read his next novel , Wanted Man being released on September 11, 2012.
